New magazine dedicated to women’s surfing launched by the French magazine Surf Session and, to celebrate this first edition, my image of Zoé Grospiron was chosen. Very happy with this new cover, especially for the launch of a new entity and especially very proud to see this Slow project gradually spreading in all universes thanks to the images created.
For this one, it was during a magnificent sunset on the beach of Madrague in Anglet. I had decided to take advantage of the lights to get into the water. I absolutely wanted to have the light at the back to get the colors right, so I had to position myself below the wave, and look at it from the front. Back from her nose, Zoé’s steps form splashes that are reflected in the light, dynamics well amplified by the streaks of the wave and the dynamics of the board giving a very graphic character to the image.
On the program for this issue 1, a new name and beautiful stories!
Last year we dreamed of escape, driven by a long period of inertia that turned the world upside down for months. This year, we are anchoring ourselves more. The magazine is anchoring itself differently, with a change of name, to be part of a new project. “Surfereuses” was built on the achievements of the past, but also with the desire to do more and do better. The term “mademoiselle”, which disappeared from administrative forms for what it represented in terms of stereotypes and in the fight for gender equality, no longer has a place in our pages. Today, Surfeuses wants to be the magazine of women’s surfing, not to isolate women in a dedicated magazine like in a gilded prison but rather to continue to give time, space and value to these stories told by women.
In this issue 1, sponsored by Alice Lemoigne, you will find an inspirational article on Bethany Hamilton, a trip to Ireland with Marie Chauché, portraits of big wave surfers or artists, but also life to the rhythm of longboarding with Laure Mayer or freesurfing with Anna Gudauskas. Not forgetting a social report on typhoon Rai in the Philippines, a portfolio by Maria Bastidas or the Girls Surf Too community in South Africa. But also a mindset focus with Johanne Defay and a step into the world of bodyboarding with Brazilian champion Isabela Sousa!
In short, lots of subjects to discover throughout the pages and according to the desires of the moment.
